ABOUT MuTechLab

MuTechLab seeks to bridge the gap between (1) formal music education and academia, and (2) formal music education (fME) and the music technology enthusiasts and initiatives outside fME.
In addition, MuTechLab is committed to involving the students’ voices, often omitted. As digital natives, their knowledge and experience, but also their expectations and aspirations, are an important foundation for (music) technology integration and related research. Therefore, participation in the sessions is open to students.

WHO? MuTechLab brings music educational researchers, formal music teachers, and music students together in hands-on sessions with interactive music technologies, including a concert. Moreover, it welcomes music technology enthusiasts (performance, teaching) from general education and the non-formal sector. For this first edition, only advanced students (min. Division Moyenne) will be accepted.

WHAT? Participants will engage in joint music making, using both traditional instruments (e.g., violin, clarinet, piano, ...) and novel interactive technologies. This will serve as the experiential basis for a systematic—and science-based—reflection on the potential of such technologies to enrich and enhance effective and creative music teaching and learning. Participants will also prepare a performance that will be organised by the University of Luxembourg, in collaboration with RockLab and the three conservatoires.

HOW? The modus operandi of MuTechLab and its connection to instigating contact with science and research is the following:

Engaging in hands-on sessions is complemented by sharing scientific knowledge, providing information on the technologies (including “how to” sheets), and engaging in joint discussions on the lived experience.
